What’s next for today’s students? For many, the answer may lead into the rapidly evolving world of construction, skilled trades, advanced manufacturing and emerging technologies.
Businesses and schools from across the region are invited to participate in the Western Mass Construction and Trades Career Day on Thursday, April 29, 2027, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Franklin County Fairgrounds in Greenfield. The event, presented by MassHire Franklin Hampshire in partnership with Junior Achievement of Western Massachusetts (JAWM), the MassHire Berkshire Workforce Board, and the MassHire Hampden County Workforce Board, will give students a firsthand look at career opportunities and connect them with employers who are building the region’s future workforce.
The event will feature hands-on demonstrations and opportunities for students to talk with professionals in construction, skilled trades and manufacturing. Businesses working in technology, innovation, sustainability and the growing green and climate technology sectors are especially encouraged to participate.
“What’s next? It’s a question students, educators and employers are all asking as technology reshapes our world and the future of work continues to evolve,” said Amie Miarecki, president of JAWM. “Students need opportunities to see what’s possible, understand the skills that will matter and connect directly with people doing this work today. This event gives students a chance to experience that future firsthand.”
For employers, the event provides an opportunity to introduce students to their industries and begin building relationships with potential future employees. Employers can showcase their work through interactive demonstrations and connect with students about internships, apprenticeships and direct-hire opportunities.
Exhibiting is free, with tables, chairs, indoor and outdoor space, electrical access and demonstration space provided at the Franklin County Fairground, 89 Wisdowm Way, Greenfield. Businesses and schools are encouraged to plan early as space is limited.
“By helping students become confident, capable and connected today, we can help ensure they have access to opportunity-filled futures tomorrow,” Miarecki said.
